Looking back at Reema Lagoos’s illustrious career
On the 18 May 2017, Reema Lagoo fans work up to the sad news of her demise. She passed away after suffering a cardiac arrest at the age of 58.
Reema Lagoo was born on the 21 June 1958, her mother was a famous Marathi stage actress. After completing her schooling career, Reema took to acting, at the same time she also worked for the Union Bank of India in Mumbai for 10 years.
In 1976 Reema met her husband Vivek Lagoo and the couple tied the knot in 1978.
They later divorced and she has a daughter named Mrunmayee, who is also an actress & a Theatre director.
Ms Lagoo made her big screen debut in 1979 with the Marati film Sinhasan.
Reema Lagoo acted in several films but gained popularity with Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988) where she played Juhi Chawla’s mother.
This was followed by the blockbuster film Maine Pyar Kiya (1989) as Salman Khan’s mother & Saajan (1991), also a super hit success at the box office.
She starred in the action drama & crime thriller Gumrah(1993) as Sridevi’s mother , Jai Kishen (1994) as Akshay Kumar’s mother & Rangeela (1995) as Urmila Matondkar’s mother.
Ms Lagoo never looked back and acted in several box office hits such as Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! (1994), Yeh Dillagi (1994), Dilwale (1994), Rangeela(1995), Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003), Vaastav: The Reality (1999).
Reema Lagoo also enjoyed a successful stint on television. Some of her notable roles were in Hindi series Khandaan, Shriman Shrimati as Kokila Kulkarni & Devaki Verma in Tu Tu Main Main.
At the time of her death Ms Lagoo was part of Mahesh Bhatt’s television series Naamkaran as Dayawanti Mehta.
Reema Lagoo will be forever edged in our memories as the “Rajshri Mom” as she appeared in most of Rajshri banner films as Salman Khan’s Mom.
Gone too soon, but will be remembered forever.
